London based portrait and fine art photographer, Deborah Paul, specialising in corporate portraiture, Linkedin and dating profiles.

Born in Scotland, raised in Los Angeles and living in London, my work has spanned most of my life. I started shooting at the age of 14, but it was during high school when my photography teacher, Mr Kluth, encouraged me to pursue photography as a career, that I began to take is seriously.

I left LA for London at the age of 19, armed with a little money and my Nikon FM camera. My “education” came from working as a second assistant at the Back Street Studios in Farringdon, working under the greats, Snowden, Bailey and Donavan to name a few. I then got a job working for Duffy, known for his famous 60’s fashion shoots and the photographer to shoot David Bowie’s Aladdin Sane Album. To learn black and white printing and film development, I worked at Joe’s Basement on Wardour Street in the heart of Soho London. They were exciting and heady days.

However it was meeting and working with Eve Arnold of Magnum Photography that gave me the eye and training I longed for. She mentored me for over a year. Up until this point, I had been shooting a lot of fashion for magazines and modelling agencies. Eve encouraged me to follow my first passion of documentary photography, leading me to shoot the collections (The Intentional Fashion shows) for four years. See my fashion collection for my work from those days.

I stopped the craziness of shooting the collections to start my family but the pursuit of getting the shot never left me. It must have been in 2011 when I got my first iPhone and that became my main camera. I love the flexibly of using an iPhone and found that I could capture images quickly and for the most part, without being seen.

I grew up loving the Magnum Photographers, such as Eve, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa. I have also been deeply inspired by the work of Georgia O’Keefe and Henri Matisse, to name just a few.

I would like to think my work pays homage to these incredible artists. My Floral Collection is inspired by Georgia O’Keefe and my work, whether in the Israel Collection or elsewhere, inspired by Cartier-Bresson. My Portraits are inspired by Eve Arnold but ultimately the wonderful people I get to photograph.

While my fashion collection was all shot on traditional cameras:

Every other photograph on my website has been shot on my iPhone. It is my tool of my trade and brings a lightness and intimacy to photos that is fresh and often, unassuming.

My work covers fine art, portraits, fashion and sometimes, Mystery.

I have two incredible sons, who both inspire me with their own gifts of creativity. I’ve been told I have a heart of a nomad, which I believe gives me a desire to….

Stay curious,
